The main physical effects of Bay are that it is anti-infective and equilibrates the autonomic system.
It is also used for slow digestion and abdominal bloating. AS such perhaps helping with weight issues in helping digestion and in that it has historically been used for fluid retention.
According to Kurt Schnaubelt, Ph.D. in "Advanced Aromatherapy-The Science of Essential Oil Therapy" : the positive effects on the lymphatic system are undeniable. He recommends rubbing a few drops of bay laurel on swollen lymph nodes to produce an immediately noticeable relieving effect.
Safety: Do not use if pregnant. Do not use on children under 2 yrs. Avoid use on sensitive or damaged skin. Must use a 2% dilution in baths. Because of it's contents of sesquiterpene lactones frequent use (over 3 weeks) on the skin can result in irritation.
The energy of Bay is warm and dry. It's Feng Shui Element is Fire. As such this fresh, sweet & spicy oil would be good to burn in your " passion-reputation" gua. I often use it when writing or creating artwork for it's inspiration, confidence and creativity encouragement. I've also used it when studying for test.
I just recently read in two different books that it has been used for protection. I've been having feeling safe issues this past month and will now use a few drops in my mister as I listen to my "safe & protected" visualization. Looking forward to seeing how that works out.
