" When it comes to food you must learn to eat like a goddess who loves the bounty before her and deserves to enjoy every bite." Christiane Northrup.M.D.
I had no idea I would feel as if I'm reading a book to help with my weight loss when I began this book. I'm 64 and thought it was on what to do physically to age better. Of course I expected to hear that I'd need to be a healthy weight, but that's not what I heard. I heard loving messages and ways to be happy with ourselves no matter where we are. I certainly never expected to be reading quotes from Abraham : " We are not proponents of long life. We are proponents of joyful life, and when you find yourself in joy, the longevity usually follows. We do not count the success of a life by it's length; we count it by its joy."
Now I think of the whole book as helping with my weight loss journey because healing our emotions and spiritual selves is part of that journey and so is pleasure ala Jenna la Flamme ( another book I'll review later). To give an idea on those elements in this book here is a list of the chapters:
1.Goddesses Are Ageless
" It's a sign that you need to give birth to a new you: an ageless goddess who experiences so much pleasure that she doesn't succumb to the temptation of lesser, temporary pleasures from sugars and alcohols."
2. Goddesses Know the Power of Pleasure.
"The gut produces more serotonin (the feel good stuff) than the brain does-generated largely as a result of the huge number of healthy bacteria that live in what is known as your microbiome."
3.Goddesses Use the Healing Power Within.
" A life devoid of movement, sleep, and nourishing food is draining and will age you quickly as it overtaxes your immune, endocrine, and central nervous systems. I consider sleep to be my number one medicine."
4. Goddesses Understand The Causes Of Health
" Its the Law of Attraction: we become what we think about and worry about the most."
5. Goddesses Grieve, Rage, And Move On.
"Unprocessed emotions of anger, grief, sadness and shame are a serious threat to health and well-being. They cause the body to create and hold onto stress hormones that lead to cellular degeneration, inflammation, and all sorts of physical ailments we associate with aging..."
6. Goddesses Are Sexy and Sensual
" If you believe you're sexy and sensual, you will be, no matter what your age or physical condition."
7.Goddesses Love Without Losing themselves
"Exercise: Cutting Energetic Cords." ( I put this whole section as real help for those of us putting everyone else ahead of ourselves.)
8.& 9 are what I zeroed in as "weight loss help chapters-very Gabriel Method Stuff here. I'll get back to them.
10. Goddesses Are Gorgeous
" Raise your right hand & say...'I promise to never, ever, ever doubt my own attractiveness and worth again. And I will never again ask anyone what he or she thinks about my weight, or
whether he or she thinks I look fat in an outfit."
11. Goddesses Embody The Divine
" Divinity is the creative, loving, vital flow of life force that we're all part of and connected to."
12. The 14-Day Ageless Goddess Program
" Old age is the only disease you can catch by imitating its symptoms."-Mario E. Martinez,
I followed this 14 day plan and just loved it. I did indeed feel ageless, revived. Each day she gives an affirmation, a prayer and activities to do along with even more fascinating information.
Now back to chapters 8 & 9. Nine is: Goddesses Move Joyously. Dr. Northrup is all about pleasurable body movement as opposed to the 'No Pain, No Gain.' exercise group and will show you scientifically why. She Tango dances herself for "exercise" and shares wonderful stories about that.
Chapter 8 is the meaty one: " Goddesses Savor the Pleasure of Food." Well, for those of wishing to let go of unhealthy fat.Again ,like Jenna la Flamme,( whom is sited twice as a book resource) Dr. Northrup talks about the pleasure of eating and like Jon Gabriel about how and what good nutrition is and how it affects our health and our aging let alone our weight. She talks about treating her own body as if it were an enemy on her weight loss quest. She discusses stress hormones and inflammation as it relates to weight gain. She writes about the issue of shame around weight & food issues. She writes about what is and isn't quality nutritious foods and about things like MSG, processed food, healthy fats as opposed to unhealthy fats and sugar and blood sugar levels. Healthy proteins and slow eating , probiotics and your gut health among other things. WOW! Anybody else see a whole lot of what we've been learning at GM?!!
So I highly recommend this book whether you want to loose weight or just want to be an ageless goddess.
